Present Tense Simple
1) UPOTREBA
1) Radnje koje se ponavljaju, navike u sadašnjosti (često sa prilozima: every minute/hour/day/week/month/year, always, often, sometimes, never, occasionally, usually, generally, hardly ever, normally, rarely, seldom):
- We visit our relatives in Germany every year. = Svake godine posjećujemo naše rođake u Njemačkoj.
- Lucy usually comes on time. = Lucy obično dolazi na vrijeme.
2) Opće istine:
- Water boils at one hundred degrees Celsius. = Voda vri na sto stupnjeva Celzija.
- The moon orbits the earth. = Mjesec se kruži oko Zemlje.
3) Ustaljeni dogovori, planirani događaji (npr. vozni red, TV raspored):
- The bus arrives at Zagreb at three o’clock. = Vlak dolazi v Zagreb u tri.
- The film begins at one. = Film počinje u jedan.
4) Radnje u sadašnjosti, jedna za drugom (first – then, after that):
- I get up at five, brush my teeth, put on my clothes and go to work. = Ustajem u pet, operem zube, obučem se i idem na posao.
5) Upute:
- Push the button to stop. = Da zaustavite pritisnite tipku.
- Add some sugar. = Dodajte malo šećera.
6) Iza nekih posebnih glagola s kojima ne koristimo vrijeme “Present Continuous”. To su glagoli koji izražavaju osjećaje (want, like, dislike, wish, love, prefer, hate, adore), stanja (belong, remain, own, seem, have, contain…), misaone procese (understand, know, realize, think ), percepciju (smell, feel, taste, see, hear):
- I understand German. = Razumijem njemački.
- He doesn’t like vegetables. = Ne voli povrće.
- I know Tom. = Poznajem Toma.
- I have a great opportunity. = Imam dobru priliku.
2) OBLIK
infinitiv / za 3.lice jednine (he, she, it) infinitiv s nastavkom “-s”
3) IZJAVNE/NIJEČNE/UPITNE REČENICE

I/we/you/they eat German food.
He/she/it eats German food.
Za “she, he, it” ne zaboravite nastavak “-s”. Infinitivu dodajemo nastavak “-s” samo u izjavnim rečenicama, a u niječnim i upitnim ne.

upotrebljavamo pomoćni glagol “do/does”.
I/we/you/they do not play basketball. (“do not” možemo skratiti u “don’t”)
He/she/it does not play basketball. (“does not” možemo skratiti u “doesn’t”)
Često koristimo kratke oblike:
I/we/you/they don’t play basketball.
He/she/it doesn’t play basketball.

Does he/she/it play basketball?
4) PRILOZI
Always, usually, often, sometimes, never, seldom, every hour/day/week/month/year, on Tuesdays, after work
5) POSEBNI GLAGOLI
Kod njih u niječnim i upitnim rečenicama ne upotrebljavamo pomoćni glagol “do/does”
1) “be” u smislu “biti, postojati”

2) modalni glagoli “could, can, might, may, must, ought to, should, shall, will, would” Modalni glagoli imajo uvijek, bez obzira na lice (I, she, he, it, you, we, they) isti oblik; nikada ne dodajemo nastavak “-s”.
