SAMPLE DIALOGS
Dialog 1
TOM: Today’s special is sea bass with a cream of tomato soup. A desert and coffee come with it too.
JIM: That sounds really good.
TOM: Yeah, I would recommend it. The seafood here is really good.
JIM: So you come here often?
TOM: Often enough. I know the chef pretty well, and I’ve gotten to know the waitstaff, too
JIM: That’s nice. So they probably treat you pretty well here.
TOM: Well the service is generally at a high level here. I don’t think they make too many exceptions for me. It’s just a nice feeling. Plus you really get to taste a lot of the chef’s specialties just by coming so often.
JIM: So tell me what else is good, then!
Dialog 2
TOM: Hello, welcome to our restaurant. Can I get you something to drink?
JIM: Yes, please. I’d like a liter of mineral water, with gas.
TOM: No problem.
JIM: And for you, ma’am?
Z: Perhaps I’d like a glass of wine. I’d like something not too sour, but not too dry either.
JIM: I think we have just the bottle. Are you two ready to order, or do you need more time?
TOM: I think we know.
JIM: Ok, great. Go ahead.
TOM: After you. Ladies first!
Z: Thank you!
Dialog 3
TOM: Hello, do you have a reservation?
JIM: Yes, it’s under Jereb for a party of two.
TOM: Of course, Mr. Jereb. Right this way, follow me.
JIM: Thank you.
TOM: Oh, actually I see they are still setting up your table. If I can just take your coats, your table will be ready in just a moment.
JIM: No problem, here you go.
TOM: Ok, I see your table is finished, so I’ll show you to your seats now.
Dialog 4
TOM: I really love the texture of this soup.
JIM: Yes, it’s very creamy.
TOM: And the flavor of the starter?
JIM: It was so nutty, almost earthy.
TOM: And then it was topped off by that creamy sauce.
JIM: Yes, it was really exquisite.
TOM: But the best part was the wine to go with the starter.
JIM: It was tangy, but not quite sour. And then there was that fruity finish at the back. Very aromatic.
TOM: Yeah, this place didn’t get its good reputation for nothing.
JIM: Even the garnish was beautiful, and edible too!
Dialog 5
TOM: Can I take your order, please?
JIM: Sure, but I’m afraid I’m a little picky. Can you handle a few substitutions?
TOM: We’ll try our best, sir.
JIM: Well, I’d like to start out with the soup. But can I have normal rolls instead of garlic bread?
TOM: That shouldn’t be a problem.
JIM: Great. What’s this pizza like here on the menu?
TOM: It’s very good, sir, I’m sure you’ll like it.
JIM: Ok, I’ll take it. But can I substitute porcini mushrooms for the chanterelles?
TOM: I’ll see if there are fresh porcinis.
JIM: Ok, thank you for being so accommodating!
